2005 Lipizzan Evaluation Results

Since 1995 Carrousel Farm has presented every eligible horse in each biennial evaluation conducted by Dr. Jaromir Oulehla, retired Director of the Spanish Riding School and the Piber Stud. Dr. Oulehla will be at Carrousel Farm on September 15. Other evaluation sites include Washington and Arizona.
A native of Czechoslovakia, Dr. Oulehla recieved his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1966. In 1970 he emigrated to Austria and was named Director of the Equine Clinic at the University Hospital in Vienna where he did research in internal medicine and epidemic illness in horses. From 1978 to 1983 he was Deputy director of the Federal Institution for Horse Breeding in Stadl Paura where he established a Research Department. In 1983 he was named Director of the Federal Stud at Piber, Austria. When in 1985 the Federal Stud at Piber and the Spanish Riding School were merged. Dr. Oulehla was named Director of the Spanish Riding School and The State Stud Farm at Piber (the first man in history to hold both posts).
Dr. Oulehla's first trips to America were to judge Lipizzan Shows beginning with the first ever Lipizzan Show in Lansing, MI in 1986 and returning in 1987 to judge the Western States Lipizzan Association's show held at the Los Angles Equestrian Center in Burbank, CA. In 1994 he returned to evaluate the Lipizzan horses in the East and in 1995 he made his first inspection tour in the west. Carrousel Farm presented our first Lipizzans in that 1995 evaluation and have participated in every evaluation since.
After 18 years service Dr. Oulehla retired as Director of the Spanish Riding School and the Piber Stud. One of the Lipizzans strongest proponents, he remains active in his veterinary practice and serves on the breeding committees of the Austrian Lipizzaner Union and the International Lipizzan Union.
